Competitive Swimming

The Parkland Pirates Swim Academy is a competitive training squad within the Parkland Pirates Aquatic Club - a year-round swim team known for providing an environment where student-athletes become better people through excellence in swimming. We value learning to work hard, mastering technique, controlling our fear and being self sufficient.

The Pirate Ethos

  • The Pirates emblem is a symbol of excellence composed of courage, skill, effort and self-reliance.
  • We work to make the Pirates a team we can be proud of.
  • Each student-athlete is responsible for the success and reputation of the team.
  • We carry ourselves with dignity, knowing our actions and words reflect on our teammates.
  • We are doers, and are in control of our destinies.
  • We are not normal, average, or mediocre, nor will we pretend to be.
  • We do what others think is impossible every day.
  • We see opportunities everywhere, and we take advantage of them.
  • We relish challenges.
  • We are committed to our team and our dreams. Our dreams are achievable, and self-discipline is the tool we use to achieve them.
  • We accept responsibility for our performance, and will always be honest with ourselves.
  • We embrace the path to excellence as a necessary process to becoming a better person.
  • We have high expectations of ourselves and those around us as we strive to improve every day.
  • We treat people the way we wish to be treated: with respect.
  • We are happy, but never satisfied. We know there is always room for improvement.
  • We value worthy opponents because they can bring out our best.
  • We know that succeeding means taking risks. We are not afraid of losing, because we learn volumes from every loss.
  • We support our own and our teammates’ excellence.
  • We encourage positive peer pressure: we help our teammates to be their best.
  • Every swimmer on this team is important and has a role to play in helping the team to reach its goals.
  • We respect one another. We value one another. We look for the good in one another.
  • We know that we only succeed when we pull for one another and care for one another.
