Foundational Swimming

Welcome to Wahoo Swimming.  Located in Stony Plain, we run a one-of-a-kind, shallow water pool system, swim development program.  PSAA. Students can enjoy learning fundamentals and skill development in an easy to learn environment for a semester.

Swimming skills build endurance, provide muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness, build healthy heart and lungs, tones muscles and improves coordination. Swimming provides an all-over body workout, as nearly all muscles are used during swimming.  

Join us for a semester in the pool. Our certified coaches develop athletes to be stronger swimmers and learn proper technique in the water.  Learn swimming foundations. Strengthen current skill sets. Get technical training on specific strokes. Enjoy the fun of the pool.

School Locations:

Location: Wahoo Swim School (4202 Park West Place, Stony Plain)

Transportation: Students will be bused midday to the facilities for their swim programming, where they can be picked up at the end of the day.

Lead Coaches & Instructors

Lead Coach - Ryan MacDonald

Ryan MacDonald has an adaptive coaching style that allows him to prepare student-athletes for success in the pool and in life. His athlete-centered philosophy stresses the importance of hard work, mastery, self-reliance and the mental strength to overcome failure. Coach Ryan’s swimmers are seen as leaders and positive role models to younger swimmers, and are characterized by their commitment to excellence, selfless teamwork, and the sport of swimming.

Armed with 25 years of experience coaching children of all ages and abilities, and aided by his prior military service, Ryan has a developed a solid method of preparing athletes for success. Throughout the years, he has coached at least one championship swimmer in every stroke and distance, including open water. Numerous swimmers under his tutelage have gone on to swim in at the college/university level in the US and Canada.

Much of Ryan’s career has been spent coaching USA Swimming Club Excellence teams, in addition to a few high school and developmental teams. Coach Ryan holds a bachelor's of science degree in Sport and Health Science, and is a International Level 5 certified member of the American Swim Coaches' Association. He lives in Stony Plain with his wife of nearly 30 years and their three children.

Coach - Heidi MacDonald

Coach Heidi was an age group standout in track and field, where she set age group state records in the 400m and was nationally ranked in the 200m, 400m, 800m mile and high school cross country competitions, Heidi also played on a nationally ranked club soccer team; as well as, swam on her high school varsity swim team.   

In swimming, Coach Heidi began teaching in Bel Air, MD, where she taught and led a summer lesson program of over 300 kids over the summer. She is experienced teaching children with specialized needs; as well as, instructed swim lessons on and off for various clubs over a 5 year period.  Heidi’s competitive experience and teaching background has prepared her well to coach competitive and developmental swimming.  Since becoming a NCCP certified competitive swim coach in 2019, Heidi’s swimmers have shown a love for swimming, proficient stroke technique, and improved racing skills.
