On-Ice Ringette Development Program

We start with the philosophy that sports empower females by giving them tools to develop and demonstrate their strength, their confidence and their athletic abilities.

On-ice development begins with fundamental skills, and gradually progresses from that point to more situational and tactical skills.

Our vision is to:

  • Provide all students/athletes with a sound foundation to grow and flourish
  • Facilitate the development of athletes' self-confidence
  • Instruct in a manner responsive to individual needs
  • Foster a team atmosphere

The ringette season of play follows the annual planning guidelines, and is structured as follows:

  • September - October: Physical conditioning and skills development (edge works, shooting technique, passing accuracy, receiving, overall timing, goaltending and distributions)
  • November - December: Continued skills development that works towards a more tactical approach to on-ice practice
  • January - March: Skills progression and maintenance to compliment normal seasonal regular team play and competitions (Provincial, Western and National competitions)
  • April - June: Lighter and more fun exercises to maintain interest and motivation. Occasional opportunities play with and against highly skilled National Ringette League athletes.

Dryland Training Program

Cutting Edge Ringette Academy is proud to partner with other local community organizations to provide dryland training that offers a variety of experiences while maintaining a focus on the following building blocks:

  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Agility
  • Stamina
  • Flexibility
  • Mobility
  • Core

The timeline for dryland training is also structured around the normal U12-U16 ringette competitive season:

  • September - November: Strength, speed, stamina and flexibility training
  • December - January: Increased focus on stamina and flexibility
  • February - March: Maintenance of the major focal groups to maximize competitive performance and minimize risk of injuries
  • April - June: Shift in focus to experiential activities to broaden each athlete’s sports experience
