At Capital-SP, our goal is to provide the highest levels of quality soccer training for our players, and to enhance their social/emotional and physical health in a positive, safe and fun learning environment.

We strive to create a valuable experience for our players while they are learning the game of soccer. We always look at new and exciting ways to further educate players on the fundamentals of the game, teaching the ABC’s of soccer - Agility, Balance and Coordination - in all we do, which enables our coaches to ensure the development of each player's individual skills, fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship. We want to improve the quality of our game and empower players to have a lifelong passion and love for the sport.

Capital-SP will create a fun and positive environment where our players develop a love of the game of soccer and continue to participate in the sport throughout their lifetime. Teaching a creative, attacking, and possession-style soccer game built on a foundation of strong technical skills is the key for making this happen.

In taking these steps to create a simple yet attractive style of soccer, we want to eliminate the “fear of failure” in players that can sometimes hold them back. Instead, we want our players to explore and be creative without the fear of making mistakes. We believe that an environment with no limitations is where our players can grow the most and realize their potential both as players and people. The motivation to play better must outweigh the fear of losing.

Soccer Program

Capital-SP Academy Program is designed to promote student growth in the following basic soccer skill areas: Tactical, Technical, Physical & Psychosocial.

The syllabus requires constant assessment and testing of participants throughout the program. This allows any age or gender to be able to access any level of training to improve their play.

Students to whom it is applicable will also be taught to develop and maintain their soccer profiles, which will allow prospective scouts and/or coaches to see their progress. More information about this process can be found on the Capital-SP website.

Further details about the PSAA Soccer Program can be found in the Capital-SP Academy Course Curriculum.

Organizations, Lead Coaches & Instructors

Head Coach - Alex Silvest (B Licence)

In between serving operational tours in the British military, Alex Silvest was able to represent the Royal Navy in football and rugby competitions. After a lower limb injury forced him to retire from service, he relocated to Alberta to become a systems analyst, while continuing to play rugby locally. At the same time, he was asked to use his football/soccer experience to help coach within the EMSA and EIYSA youth soccer organizations. Alex is now also coaching multiple teams of men and women within EDSA, while playing on various men’s teams in EDSA and the VMSL. He continues to use his expertise to coach on both a one-to-one and group basis for both youth and adult individuals/clubs throughout the Edmonton area.

Head Coach - Carl Cryer (FA Level 3)

As he has played with various local clubs from a young age, Carl Cryer's love of soccer has grown tremendously throughout the years, during which he has been able to gain experience from several different types of coaching. An injury early in his soccer career led him to pursue coaching, where he established his own soccer company and began coaching children ages 5-17. Even while working with a wide variety of player abilities, Carl is able to offer an intense yet enjoyable soccer program to those under his tutelage.
